Last week, the Société Jersiaise and Jersey Heritage were pleased to welcome representatives from France, partners of the Normandy Museums Network to give them a glimpse of our culture & heritage.

Attendees included a group from La Fabrique de patrimoines en Normandie, Musée de Normandie – Château de Caen, Château de Crèvecoeur en Auge, Musée d’art et d’histoire de Granville and from Ministère de la Culture.

Our group made a visit to La Hougue Bie and enjoyed a tour of the Catillon hoard exhibition with Hervé, SJ’s Field Archaeologist, demonstrations from JH volunteers in the Neolithic Longhouse and a walk up to the 16th century chapel on top of the prehistoric mound.

Next stop was Hamptonne where the group was introduced to the charming Hamptonne Country Life Museum and the excellent café who provided our delicious lunch. The afternoon was spent exploring the Jersey Archive, followed by a Vin d’Honneur at the Société and dinner.

We spent a fascinating day exchanging experiences and ideas about our various organisations and how we might collaborate.

With special thanks to Bureau des Iles Anglo-Normandes for coordinating the visit, to all our guests for attending and to Jersey Heritage and Société Jersiaise staff for their pride and enthusiasm in sharing their work.
