Mycology

The Mycology Section was formed to find, identify and record the fungi of Jersey; until the Section was founded in 1995 very little was known about the fungi of Jersey. We now have records of around 1500 fungi in Jersey and new species are identified every year.

Fungal species are very numerous and are generally less well known than plants and larger animals. Identification of fungal species can be challenging and the brief season in which the familiar toadstools appear gives a seasonal bias to our work, however fungi are a fascinating field of study where new discoveries can be made.
